  • Salt Lake County putting most funds into recreation, cultural arts

    Although home to Historic Temple Square, Utah’s most-popular tourist attraction, Salt Lake County uses most of its tourism taxes for recreation. The county transferred $14.8 million of the $27.5 million it raised from sales taxes on restaurant meals, car rentals and hotel rooms to its recreation budget in 2011. That amount will rise to $16.5 million this year.
